Agroforestry: a viable option for diverting pressure from the natural Chilgoza forests in Pakistan

In the Chilgoza ecosystem, The Restoration Initiative will continue the efforts of the 1 Billion Tree Afforestation Programme. The project will support communities to grow multi-purpose, fast-growing local trees near the forests, as well as on terraces and uncultivated areas of agricultural lands.

Large scale rangeland management actions, including understanding stocking rates and carrying capacities of rangelands, have been implemented in Lebanon to better plan grazing activities, promote rotational grazing and the reduction of stocking rates.

The Restoration Initiative project in the Central
African Republic

A new project to be submitted to the Least Developed Countries Fund is under preparation aiming at strengthening the adaptive capacity of communities through the intensification of integrated management and landscape restoration in the South-Western region of CAR. This project activity will contribute to the mobilization of funding for FLR.

Forest and landscape restoration can support societies to mitigate climate change and adapt to its impacts. Restoration activities must consider the importance of forest genetic resources and establish ecosystems consisting of viable and genetically diverse populations resilient in present and future environmental conditions.
