The threat of ASF reaching the Pacific is real despite the geographical distance of Samoa, and other Pacific countries have from ASF hotspots in Asia and Europe.

FAO is supporting countries in the control and prevention of ASF including ASF preparedness and risk assessment missions. 

Rapid and unplanned urban sprawling in the surrounding rural areas is commonly depleting natural resources, including arable land, and eroding biodiversity, thereby contributing to the unsustainability of current urbanization trend, and increasing the vulnerability to shocks.

FAO annual report titled, the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World, estimates 820 million people did not have enough to eat in 2018.  FAO Sub Regional Coordinator, Eriko Hibi, says the challenge highlighted by the report is how do we ensure nutritious and high quality food is available and affordable for Samoan people.

Changing mindsets on the benefits of healthy eating remains a challenge as individual food preferences continues to reign supreme over healthy meal choices.

That is the view of Faausu Kaiser, who was one of 25 food vendors at the Savalalo Flea Market in Apia, Samoa, who were invited to participate in a healthy food promotion seminar.

The report explores the opportunities and challenges women face in the agriculture sector in modern Vanuatu. The gender analysis of the institutional and policy environment also highlights what is already in place to support women in this sector and what else needs to be strengthened to ensure women and Vanuatu families benefit equitably from government services.

the commonly used extension methods and an outline of how extension may be planned and implemented.
