Proceedings of the Second FAO International Symposium on Agroecology, April 2018

In April 2018, FAO hosted the Second International Symposium on Agroecology to Achieve the SDGs; the Symposium had an impressive level of attendance with a total of 768 participants, including representatives from 72 governments, 350 non-state actors and six United Nations (UN) Organizations.

Some of the outcomes of the Symposium are the Scaling up Agroecology Initiative, the validation of a set of 10 Elements of Agroecology and the presentation of 45 case studies, featuring successful agroecological experiences and innovations.

Outcomes of the Technical Seminar on ''Agroecology in extensive mixed farming systems: similar productivity, lower costs and increased resilience''

The event featured a rich multi-disciplinary interaction on the opportunities offered by Agroecology applied to extensive integrated systems in medium- and large-scale farms, and presented insights on comprehensive financial and economic indicators that could be considered when assessing these systems.

The Seminar was hosted on 8 March 2019 by the FAO Technical Network on Sustainable Crop Production an Agroecology and was organized in close collaboration with RENAMA, Red Nacional de Municipios y Comunidades de fomentan la Agroecologia en Argentina.

Mother-child relationships fostered by Agroecology

The project DeMano (Mothers and Children’s Development) focuses on improving nutrition, health and livelihoods of communities in Veracruz (Mexico), through the use of agroecological approaches and implementation of strategies based on scientific research on soils, health and mother-child relationships.

Cultivating the future: Women Farmers in Ghana

If women possess knowledge, they possess power. The Rural Women Farmers’ Association of Ghana (RUWFAG) helps women to gain knowledge about traditional agricultural system for them to find their roots, with the mantra that “We, the women, are the solution to the problem’’.
