Welcome to the new Agroecology Newsletter!

This month's issue marks the debut of a brand new Newsletter that will bring more agroecology news, stories, events and resources to you from all over the world with a regional thematic entry point thanks to your contributions and the ones of our colleagues from Regional Offices and Headquarters.

Also, the Newsletter is getting an updated, modern layout built to be compatible across all devices, making reading and sharing information much easier. We are really pleased to share with you this new version.

Alliance for Agroecology in West Africa launched

The Alliance pour l'Agroécologie en Afrique de l'Ouest was launched last April in Dakar to promote agroecology in West Africa to build sustainable food systems for millions of people in the region.

Empowering rural youth with agroecology

FAO is working to empower rural youth in Belize, Haiti, Dominican Republic and Guyana through the Strengthening decent rural employment opportunities for young women and men in the Caribbean. More than 150 youth have received training in agricultural and business skills, with strong emphasis in agroecological production.

Workshop on LUME methodology

AS-PTA organized a workshop on LUME, a methodology to assess the economic and ecological dimensions of agro-ecosystems. FAO colleagues and participants from several countries attended the event.

Seminar Series on Agroecology in the Caribbean

FAO and the Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International (CABI) - Trinidad organized two seminars on how agroecology can contribute to sustainable and integrated livestock production and urban food systems.

Catalysing dialogue and cooperation to scale-up agroecology. Outcome of the FAO regional seminars on agroecology

Following the first International Symposium on Agroecology in 2014, FAO organized a series of regional multistakeholder seminars. This report presents a summary of main lessons from those meetings and proposes a framework for action.

Agroecological rice production in China. Restoring biological interactions

Rice is the most important food crop, both worldwide and for China. Eight typical methods of agroecological rice production are introduced in this report, with an emphasis on the role of biodiversity. These methods for harnessing biodiversity in rice production can be learned, modified, improved and integrated into rice production across different regions around the world according to the specific context in each place.

An agroecological Europe by 2050: a multifunctional agriculture for a healthy diet

The Ten Years for Agroecology in Europe scenario shows that a fully agroecological Europe, free from synthetic inputs and based on the redeployment of natural grasslands and the extension of agroecological infrastructures, could sustainably feed 530 million Europeans by 2050.
