FAO convenes a sixth meeting to assess the current state of demersal fish stocks across the Eastern Central Atlantic Ocean

Mauritania – The sixth session of the Fishery Committee for the Eastern Central Atlantic (CECAF) Working Group on the Assessment of Demersal Resources was held in Nouakchott, Mauritania, from the 2nd to the 10th of December, with the support of FAO Mauritania and the Mauritanian Institute for Oceanographic Research and Fisheries (IMROP).

Job creation in aquaculture sector in Southern Africa takes centre stage

South Africa — The aquaculture sector has significant potential to create jobs for young people in Southern Africa. In order to create a platform  to bring in the aspects of aquaculture sectoral development, advocacy and policy dialogue, the Southern Africa Development Community supported by FAO’s Subregional Office for Southern Africa, Advance Africa, and the Africa Centre of Excellence in Aquaculture and Fisheries Science (Aquafish) / Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), organised a training course in South Africa.

FAO supports SADC member states to strength measures to control fruit fly

Maputo - Fruit fly poses serious threat to trade and in order to mitigate its effects, Mozambique hosted Regional Training Workshop on the identification, biology, ecology, management strategies and impact assessment of the pest. The workshop held over five days in the last week of January was aimed preventing the spread of pests on plants and plant products as well as the promotion of appropriate measures for their control in the region.
